G-Force was written by the Wibberleys - as in Cormac and Marianne, the married duo who had a hand or four in both National Treasure s and The Shaggy Dog - and directed by Hoyt Yeatman, a former effects man ( Underdog ) making his feature debut behind the camera. If that's not enough, we also have a huge, pyrotechnic finale set to Carmina Burana ( O Fortuna: The Rodent Edition). We have a slippery English business magnate ( Bill Nighy), a variety of dim-bulb Feds (Will Arnett included) and some three-wheeled romantic tension between Darwin, Hurley and a manipulative little G-Forcer named Juarez ( Penélope Cruz). We have Jon Favreau as Hurley, a lonely pet store denizen who bonds with Darwin and watches, horrified, while a top-of-the-line coffee machine morphs into the appliance from hell ( Transformers 3: When Cappuccino Makers Attack!) We have Zach Galifianakis, as the crew's earnest human mentor, choking with emotion as he grieves over a dead mole ( Hangover II: Please, Somebody, Tell Me I Didn't Actually Make This Movie).

Having now seen the entire mammalian disaster, I can honestly report that there is so, so much more going on in this movie than just a bunch of cavys rappelling into danger.įor instance: We have team leader Darwin (voiced by Sam Rockwell) behind the wheel of a souped-up hamster ball (call it The Fast and the Furriest).
But as a title, G-Force just doesn't cut it.
